The World

General Overview

The world of Elysium is mainly comprised of three continents, the largest of which is to the south, called Polaris, and is home to both the deserts of the Hamakei and the forests of the Elves. The other two continents are the northwestern continent, Occid, which is half covered with ice-capped mountains, and the northeastern continent, Orien, which is rocky and in the main barren.

Cities of Elysium

There are nine settlements on Elysium which are large enough to be called cities, and these act as both homelands and centres of activity for the races of Elysium.

Aronsol

Aronsol is the city founded by the Hamakei, a refuge from the constant raids and attacks which forced them from their traditional solitude of living in towers deep in the deserts. The city itself is in the centre of said deserts, on the southern continent, and is a cluster of small towers around one, larger tower, which acts as the centre of government for the city.

Gralthar

The city fortress of Gralthar was built by the Dwarves, and nestles in the ice valleys of the northwestern continent. The combination of strong city walls and harsh surrounding terrain make the city a stronghold, and the once wide-spread Dwarven people have gradually migrated into the safety of the city over many years.

Karinthia

The largest of the settlements built by the humans after their introduction to Elysium, Karinthia soon prospered and proved its worth as their capital. Now it is the home to most humans, and its cosmopolitan air attracts settlers and traders of other races as well. Karinthia is on the eastern coast of the southern isle.

Olbaron

Built by the Cyclops people, Olbaron rests in a valley behind two massive mountain ridges, which provide natural walls which protect the city. It is on the western edge of the northeastern continent, and much of the city has been built underground, with a complex system of tunnels forming the homes and work places of the Cyclops people.

Ruk'tan

The city of Ruk'tan was built by the Orcish people, and stands in the plains to the southwest of the northwestern island, close to where the race originated. The city has a very relaxed attitude, and sprawls haphazardly across the countryside.

Szagan

Once called Lopath, the city of Szagan was originally built by the Centaurs, and served as their capital and homeland. However, with the arrival of the Spawn to Elysium, and the subsequent destruction of the Centaur race, the city was perverted into the place it is today, a little bit of Hades in Elysium, and given over to the Spawn as their new homeland. It was renamed after the original leader of the Spawn, Szagan.

Thul'mar

The capital of the Specter empire, the city-fortress of Thul'mar was built during the period of Hakarren dominance, and stands as a monument to the fine craftsmanship of those people. It was at Thul'mar, nestled in the mountains of the northeastern continent, that the Hakarren faced and defeated the Elysium Brotherhood.

Tylorus

Deep within the forests of the southern continent, the great city of Tylorus can be found. Built in ancient times by the Elves around the Great Oak, the city has prospered over the years as the oak has grown.

Vagla

Vagla is the city of the Goblins, a sprawling mass of buildings constructed on the southern coast of the northwest continent, directly east of the Orc city Ruk'tan.

Other Places of Interest

There are many other interesting places you can visit other than the cities on the continents of Elysium, and this section lists a few of them.

The Tower of Arcane Sorcery

Standing directly to the west of the Human city of Karinthia, which it casts its shadow upon, the Tower of Arcane Sorcery is the centre of worship to the god Zharadan. Originally built as the Tower of Judgement by the followers of Zharadan following the civil war there, the name of the tower was changed when the aims of Zharadan did.

Valgrannar

Once a small Orcish tribe, whose village nestled in the mountains north of modern day Ruk'tan, the name Valgrannar is now used in reference to the caverns where that tribe took refuge and discovered the demonlord Gralnak, who went on to become a god during a battle on that plains outside the caverns. In modern times Valgrannar is abandoned, though occasionally worshippers of the worm god travel there in hopes of communion with him.

The Flesh Citadel

Formed from living flesh in ancient days by a demonlord, the first necromancer, the citadel sits south of the Aronsol deserts on the southern continent. For millennia it has been occupied by Lord Dresh, the semi-undead hamakei who took the reigns of necromancy from the demonlord.

Nectan Point

On the western edge of the largest island outside the three main continents, Nectan Point is the largest settlement found so far of the mysterious Lizardine people. The island, half covered by divine mists originally created by the lost goddess Delvanea, is located east of Polaris.

Haven

A large settlement in a sub-dimension, populated by magicians of light, Haven was created to escape from the war and brutality that sometimes consumes Elysium, and was hidden for many years, but in recent times the way into this place from Elysium has been located.

Geography of Elysium

Occid; the Northwest Continent

Much of this continent is covered in the ice bound mountains, which are mostly to the north and northwest. Between the mountains and the rest of the continent are rows of rocky hills, and the flat south of the continent is covered in barren earth and grassy swathes.

Orien; the Northeast Continent

This continent is almost entirely barren, with high, craggy mountains to the east and northeast, and lifeless plains covering the rest. However, there is a narrow strip of fertile land around a large bay in the south coast of the continent.

Polaris; the Southern Continent

The largest of the three continents of Elysium, the southern continent is also the one with the most varied terrain. The two dominant features are the dense forests slightly east of the centre, and the deserts to the north of the continent, although a barren strip running through the western side of the continent and marshy, water-logged areas to the far east also provide a change from the grasslands.
