Timeline

This is a brief timeline of Elysium. In some places it may be inaccurate, and if you wish to learn a more detailed history you should consult the history books or seek out the learned. Where things are mentioned in a single paragraph, the order may be debatable depending on your source. Note that where something is 'created', this usually implies an act of the Creator.

    • Ancient:** The planes of Hades and Elysium are created.

Demons are created in Hades.

Life spawns on Elysium.

Elves and Hamakei are created.

Astarot is created, sent by the creator to guide the new people of Elysium spiritually.

Zharadan is created, sent by the creator to aid the development and advancement of Elysium and its people.

Delvanea (Known as Nectanebus in some texts) is created, sent by the creator to guard the weak.

The first Hakarren and Centaurs are created.

Delvanea turns away from her given task, and seeks the path of evil.

The Goblins and Cyclops' are created.

Wars break out across Elysium over land. The hostilities would continue for many years.

The Dwarves and Orcs are created.

The Hakarren Empire is formed after a number of Hakarren success' in battle.

    • -4300 AF:** The Hakarren Empire establishes itself as the

dominant force in Elysium.

    • -5 AF:** The Hakarren Empire reaches its greatest point at

this time.

    • 0 AF:** Astarot and Zharadan join forces to weaken the

Hakarren. The Mighty Hakarren Empire falls within months.

    • 20-160 AF:** The golden age of peace.
    • 172 AF:** 'The Elysium Brotherhood' arrives at the capital

fortress city of the Hakarren Empire, Thul'Mar, and demand the surrender of the Hakarren. A battle ensues, and 'The Elysium Brotherhood' almost captures the city, only to be foiled by a treacherous counter-attack by their Orcish faction.

    • 175-200 AF:** Over this period, the peaceful leaders of the southern

cities who assembled the Elysium Brotherhood were gradually removed and replaced by despotic empire builders.

    • 200-300 AF:** Wars break out all over Elysium, with ancient allies

fighting each other.

    • 300-315 AF:** Peace spreads through the weakened cities of Elysium,

and the races settle throughout the continents, far from each other: The Dwarves, Orcs and Goblins settled on the northwest continent, the Hakarren and Cyclops on the northeastern continent, and the Elves, Centaurs and Hamakei settled on the southern continent.

    • 320 AF:** The Hakarren lay waste to nearby cities and begin to

expand their realms through the shattered empires of the other races.

    • 327 AF:** Astarot banishes the Hakarren to an alternate

dimension, as punishment for their constant attacks on the more peaceable races.

    • 330-890 AF:** A second golden age occurs, the races of Elysium

blooming without the Hakarren to keep them back.

    • 647 AF:** Astarot introduces the Human race to Elysium.
    • 750 AF:** By this time, the Humans had already built large

colonies on the southern continent.

    • 764 AF:** An alliance is formed between the Hamakei and

Human people, and the Humans learn the art of magic from the Hamakei.

    • 812 AF:** Zharadan, pleased with the way the Human race

was developing, granted them a gift to tap into any dimension they wanted.

    • 876 AF:** The Humans discover the dimension in which

the Hakarren are trapped. The Hakarren convince them they have been trapped there by an evil force.

    • 877 AF:** The Humans begin to free the Hakarren from the

alternate dimension, allowing them back into Elysium.

    • 881 AF:** Astarot discovers the plans of the Hakarren, and

takes away the gift Zharadan gave to the Humans, halting the release. Those Hakarren who had already escaped into Elysium fled northwards, back to the abandoned fortress of Thul'Mar.

    • 885 AF:** The Hakarren become known as the 'Specters' in

honour of their physical form, which had been weakened during their return to Elysium.

    • 890 AF:** The Specters develop their magical skills, reviving

the sorcerous arts which had died when they had first been banished, soon growing in skill such that they almost rivalled the Hamakei as masters of the magical forces.

    • 900 AF:** A tentative age of peace encroaches over Elysium,

the Specters left without sufficient resources to rebuild their ancient empire.

    • 900-958 AF:** A period of ignorance and doubt, as the gods grew

tired of the petty mortal squabbles.

    • 958 AF:** The Demonlord Gralnak is summoned to Elysium,

and the battle of Valgrannar ensues. After a lengthy conflict, the demon is ordained as a god in order to prevent Elysium being laid to waste. The period of doubt is ended by the manifestation of the entire pantheon of immortals at the battle.

    • 974 AF:** An attempt to assassinate Zharadan by Gralnak is

foiled by Delvanea. The worm god is banished to a void of darkness and emptiness.

    • 977 AF:** Gralnak returns from his exile.
    • 1025 AF:** A civil war rages in the Human capital city of Karinthia.
    • 1034 AF:** The civil war in Karinthia ends as the rebels, worshippers

of Zharadan, leave the city to build the 'Tower of Judgement' to the west, and the tower stands over the city in momument to the horrors of war and the benefits of peace.

    • 1037 AF:** Szagan and his army of Demons are allowed to enter

Elysium by the god Gralnak. They lay waste to the Centaur city of Lopath, and eradicate the entire race within a matter of weeks. Gralnak binds the Demon army to the mortal plane, and they become the Spawn. Szagan is killed, and Lopath is renamed in his honour when the Spawn settle there.

    • 1038 AF:** Zharadan orgainises his followers near Karinthia into an

order to counter the influence of the Spawn, and the increasing rise of Gralnak's order. Zharadan names his new order, the 'Sons of Judgement'.

    • 1252 AF:** Zharadan turns his back on his old task and aims, instead

concentrating his efforts to the advancement of the magical arts. It is said that he communed with the Creator, and took his new aims based on that communion. His tower is renamed 'The Tower of Sorcery', and his order is renamed 'The Conclave of Magi'.

    • 1530 AF:** Around this time the god Astarot retreated into a mortal

form, later discovered to be named 'Raku', after humbling defeats in battle with the other gods.

    • 1553-5 AF:** During this time, Raku is discovered as Astarot and

returns to his position in the pantheon. However, soon after the creator returns and takes Astarot away from Elysium, in order to help in another dimension. During his visit, the Creator noticed how much Delvanea had strayed from her set path, and she was banished by him.

    • 1556 AF:** Alaric, God of the Golden Dawn, is sent to Elysium

to bring peace and justice back to the world.

    • 1557 AF:** Gralnak attempts to transport his demonic army into

Elysium, in a bid to conquer the world. The champion of his army, Cruvian, is slain by Andrew and Pewter. An artifact is retrieved from Cruvian, the Nishgarnet. This is reclaimed by Vagla Emperor Makkar, and used to summon Nishgar in crystalline form. After a period of havoc, the Nishgarnet is recaptured by the order of Zharadan, and destroyed by Rillion, Cloudi and Saul. This act releases the ghost of Nishgar upon the world. In this form, Nishgar proves undefeatable by any of Gralnak's foes, but with his army stuck in Hades, the worm-god eventually withdraws Nishgar back to his side in Hades.

    • 1560 AF:** Lord Rillion Leolex becomes the first mortal on the

island of Delvanea's high temple since her departure. He is accompanied by Saul, King of Aronsol. Later in the year, Cambion of Thul'Mar discovers the ancient crystal used by the humans to free the Specter race. Whilst attempting to use the crystal to complete the work of the humans and return the Hakarren to Elysium, Cambion is infused with divine essence of Delvanea, which had been trapped in the Hakarren dimension. This essence grants him divine power, and he becomes Silathis, Master of Pain.

    • 1562 AF:** Mysterious beings harness the mana of Elysium and

focus it into the body of Miracle, at the same time fusing the personalities of Miracle and her mother Cloudi. The new being created has the powers of a deity, and becomes Aurora, Goddess of Tranquility.

    • 1565 AF:** Lostsaint Leoric sets foot on the Damned Isle, the

first mortal to do so since Delvanea first used it to torture the souls of her victims.

Also in this year, the army of Thul'Mar subjugated the city of Olbaron and placed a puppet government there to rule it.

Later in the year, the College of Magical Arts and Theories opened in Aronsol. Helena of Thul'Mar became the first chancellor of the college.

    • 1566 AF:** The spawn Volcom becomes the first mortal to visit

the ancient keep of Sakatha in Hades. From there he manages to enter one of the outer dimensions, which is named the Sakathian Dimension.

    • 1567 AF:** The College of Arts and Crafts opens in Gralthar.

Peandrag becomes the first chancellor there.

    • 1568 AF:** Gralnak, the Great Worm, opens a portal in the city

of Olbaron, and an army of demons enters through it to liberate the city. The demons are put under the command of Doogan, Priest and new Emperor of Olbaron.

Later in this year, the Din'Taal dynasty, led by Lythran, along with Arkane and Lostsaint, rises to power in Szagan, starting a reign of terror and war over western Polaris.

    • 1569 AF:** Vegetto and Sakura of Vagla become the first to

visit the settlement of Garra'Hudan since it was raised into the heavens by divine energies.

In Icedawn of the same year, a new volcanic island is discovered in the eastern islands. Pewter, Emperor of Karinthia, is the first to land on it, and names it Belchfire Island.

Shortly after this, a sea monster is spotted off the coast of Karinthia, and is slain by Helena. It is soon followed by a number of others, apparently drawn to the surface.

    • 1570 AF:** A fleet of Man o War, captained by Jazmine and

Advocate Leoric, discover the lost colony of New Town. Niji is also aboard one of the ships. Advocate helps liberate the town, but it is soon overrun by its enemies again.

In Icedawn of that year, Margursaks the Red, a demon sent by the Lord of Magic and the Sakathian king Saksaka, enters Elysium. He makes alliances with Jazmine, Rallura and some others, in an attempt to stop the invasion of the Sakathian Keep. Many of those who profess to be his allies turn on him, with Jazmine and Rallura the only two he trusts by the end, and he is eventually banished by the combined attacks of Lythran, Lostsaint, Disciple and Beowolf.

    • 1571 AF:** The arena is constructed in the city of Thul'Mar, at

a cost of half a million coins.

    • 1572 AF:** The Din'Taal dynasty is forced from government in

Szagan after a devestating war with Aronsol which ends a lengthy and violent period in Polaris' history.

    • 1573 AF:** The fog demon Karusharti is unleashed on Elysium by Gralnak.

It is not clear what the intention of this act is, but the demon soon embeds himself into Elysium.

    • 1574 AF:** Morgak captains the first ship to cross the 'northern edge'

and enter negative co-ordinates. Zalaan is also on board during the historic journey.

Very soon after, Carse and Pithlit land on an island north of the edge, where a goblin pirate ship grounded years earlier.

Later in the same year, Morgak completes another feat, and becomes the first mortal in modern times to pass through the Astaria.

    • 1578 AF:** Balbasaur, Emperor of Karinthia, discovers a new island. He

names this island 'Dragon Mane Island'.

In Dreamlong of this year, the great Dragon Dynael awakes from his slumber, and passes on his power from the creator to cause the rise of a new god, Velarq, Spinner of Fate.

    • 1581 AF:** The first ever Elysium Games are held, just outside of

Thul'Mar, hosted by Emperor Ortkin of Thul'Mar. Later in the year, Gralnak opens a portal into the third dimension, and withdraws Karusharti from Elysium to send through the portal.

    • 1582 AF:** Saborak Saikoffor and his shadow monks open a new portal

to the Place of Shadows and begin attempts to rebuild the dimension.

In Dreamlong of this year, Gralnak begins to allow his mortal followers into the third dimension, 'Gralnakia'. Antek Hellstrom is the first mortal to enter the dimension.


    • 1583 AF:** Through the use of magical portals and spells recently

rediscovered, the Necromancer Lord Dresh raises an army of undead, and uses it to sweep the influence of the cities out of his citadel. With this success behind him, Lord Dresh then sends his forces outside the Flesh Citadel, to conquer the lands of Polaris. However, one of his vortexes of power is destroyed when Sirine Winters and Mortrax Vahnahvoi prevent Dresh's sacrifical undead leaving the citadel to feed the vortex. With this defeat, Lord Dresh retracts his forces back into the Citadel, the invasion of Polaris defeated.

A few days later, in an unrelated event, the Great Worm closes the massive portal to Hades that has protected Olbaron for the last fifteen years, diverting the troops elsewhere.

    • 1585 AF:** Aurora raises a small island containing a swamp to the

south of Tylorus, and Vallerie is the first to land there on the 5th day of the 3rd week of Whitefall. Aurora's followers begin constructing a shrine with the bricks from the swamp, which appear magical in nature.

Later in the year, in Icedawn, a tablet is discovered which describes a 'City of Peace' left by the Creator far to the south of the inhabited continents. Fleets of ships set out to discover this city, and Sirine Winters is the first to find it.

    • 1586 AF:** On the 4th day of the 5th week of Whitefall Aurora's

shrine is completed.

    • 1598 AF:** A portal is opened to a new sub-dimension, Tevikon's realm,

after a series of contests to determine nine champions who can activate the portal. The champions are Huynh the Gatherer, Flax the Sunderer, Darkfly the Mauler, Rajier the Dominator, Wesley the Quickener, Fortinbras the Ravager, Fawne the Hunter, Hudsonz the Roamer and Trujo the Unrelentor. Darkfly is the first of the nine to enter the sub-dimension, bringing along three followers, Ladygrace, Lythran and Reluss.

    • 1635 AF:** The first in a series of desert islands is discovered after

the sailor Darkfly survived a shipwreck to be washed up on one. Though the island was too small to dock ships at, Darkfly managed to forage for coconuts and supplies to build a raft in an attempt to escape his solitude.

    • 1641 AF:** A powerful sprite, angered by his people helping the elves in

the forests while the Brotherhood continue to expand Gralnakia into his homeworld, seeds multiple balls of burning energy in the forests of Elysium. Spurred on by Gralnak, the Brotherhood led by Smurgel, and assisted by Dakif of the Order of Fate, fuel these balls of energy in the hopes of advancing Gralnak's knowledge of the third dimension. The citizens of Tylorus valiantly try to fight back but are overwhelmed and the forests around the elven city are seriously damaged, with the effects likely to linger for years.
